Dilemma on the next book

Hello,

With 2 books completed I think I've got a reasonably decent grasp of the world that the books are in but I'm at a bit of a dilemma about the direction of the next book and am of a split mind on whether to pursue Benoheim's story or go on to found the New Atlantis, or go after those who had been captured. I've seen that other authors have treated the dilemma in a variety of different ways, varying from using all three perspectives and plot lines in the same book and making an unholy mess of it to making three different books that are all at the same time-frame but sequels of sorts, to picking one story line and letting the others die off with the option of making their own series later.

Any suggestions?

Return to Atlantis first draft completed.

Hello all.

Last night I completed the first copy of Return to Atlantis.  There may be a bit to re-work, but I can say that I've got my initial copy written, The group sent to Atlantis made it down and back and had an adventure along the way. All the Romans who had been friends of Atlantis finally are full blooded and now members of the Empire of Atlantis and I know how it all happened.

The story takes our now familiar characters and sends them to their ancestral home, some of them going to see family that they haven't seen in well over a decade, while others have missions that weren't even dreamed of before. I've already got the next book titled, which should be a catch up from the perspective of those captured and enslaved. More will be coming as I work on revising the first draft of Return to Atlantis and proceed with writing the next installment in the series.

Atlantis Enslaved.

Remnants of Atlantis is Progressing well.

As you can see by the listing on the blog, Remnants of Atlantis is the second book in the series and I've been making pretty good progress on it and hope to have it ready to read and revise by the end of the month provided all goes well.

So far in the story the group that had been selected by the godhead have made the descent to the capital where oracles (specialized servants of the godhead that have regular contact with them) are waiting to help them with their tasks. As can be expected, the godhead left out a few details, like the houses are at war both in the center where the mages and priesthood of the five gods are trapped as well as the outer ring where the military and craftsmen were trapped. The group is divided up to perform their own tasks, but a stow away is discovered, an adoption ceremony is performed, and he is assigned some specific tasks as well.

The group uses the chaos that the city is in to establish themselves and start their godhead assigned tasks. Eldreth re establishes her relationship with her parents after having run away with Horus to marry him on the outpost. Ichtha meets her mother after so many years apart to find that her betrothal is not approved, and that is only one of a few points of contention between the two women. Alyse marries the love of her life, Isaac, and takes advantage of the fact that the weather mages are all trapped in the center and starts training children and young people the arts and of weather magic. The stow away becomes Drow, (the militarized version of a Sentinel, less watching and reporting and more stealth and execution) after receiving gills and after his first meal in the city gets put into a transforming bath of chemicals after being marked and prepared for the transformation, breathing the chemicals through his gills after having is throat blocked so he won't drown. The Oracle of the Dark Lady's daughters take a shine to the man and assist their father with his preparations and on a last minute impulse establish what they expect to be a temporary bond similar to what happens when Atlantians get married, and end up with more than they bargained for when the Dark Lady gets involved a bit more directly and approves of the match and orders them to marry the man. He receives additional adjustments on the Dark Lady's orders and becomes the Unseen Hand of the Dark Lady, a gray man. On the day of the marriage the gift is passed on to the wives, making the trio invisible while in plain sight and impossible to remember or describe, even while looking directly at them.

As the Unseen Hand of the Dark Lady starts his task, which involves specific kills to increase the chaos in both the center of the city and the outer rings, the secrets of who was involved in what sunk the capital come to light and not all of the news is easy to take.

Alyse finds herself called upon by the godhead to revert to skills she developed during a rebellious time in her life and becomes a thief of some skill and finds that some of the things she liberates happen to be needed by the man that had been the stow away and she becomes good friends with his wives, whom she nicknames Pills and Gills due to one being an alchemist and the other having tried to drown the man that became her husband in a fountain shortly after he had received his gills.  Pills and Gills agree to help Alyse train her apprentices who master the skills of weather magic quickly in the more subtle arts of stealth and assassination to assist Alyse in her tasks of recovering items.

I'd go into more detail, but then it would ruin too much of the book. I'm making battles epic, tasks difficult on multiple levels. The characters grow a lot as they learn that the godhead didn't give them all the details, but provide the needed help exactly when it is needed, kind of how Heavenly Father (God) works today in our own lives.

To those who follow my blog, if you have any suggestions on a publisher that would be willing to give me a shot, email me at jonpaup@yahoo.com. I'll keep working on getting my books written as I keep submitting manuscripts in hopes of getting them published.

Overview of Remnants of Atlantis

This is just a summary of the first book in the series that I'm writing.

In one night the entire world of members of a quiet community living within the protective walls of an island that looks like so many barren islands near the mouth of the Mediterranean sea is turned upside down when a traitor from their midst brings a flotilla of a mixture of Romans and pirates to their shores and carries of most of the population as slaves as well as almost anything not nailed down.  Unfortunately for those left on the island for a variety of reasons, they didn't get everyone and those that are left are far from helpless. The invaders are in for a deadly surprise.

Ichtha and her twin sister Terra escaped and hid themselves during the raid and they are joined by their soon to be mother-in-law Eldreth and decide to make their home safe again.

Terra, a wild warrior becomes an assassin, pretending to be the Dark Lady, Hel, the Atlantian goddess of death and vengeance. Going from group to group she slaughters the invaders as they relax around their fires, enjoying their spoils or torturing those unfortunate enough to have fallen into their hands. She liberates children, and a young weather mage by the name of Alyse. Alyse proves to be an excellent student as she follows Terra and helps execute justice on those who think that they are alone on the island.

Ichtha, the high priestess of Clyeos, the god of the sea and all things living in it had been given two gifts by her father before he took his final breaths, gills and a bond to her fiancee, Benoheim. Although she is less inclined to violence than her twin, she proves to be just as effective in dispatching those who are on their shores and locates gilled warriors who had been banished from the land for falling asleep on their posts. With her Drowned Guard, she makes her way through the saltwater canals as she is taught the use of her gills by a pair of old friends who are true merfolk, complete with fish like tails. In her travels she encounters Edda, a young seer who had been raised in hiding, living within the tunnels and secret passageways that riddle the island and preparing to help those that would be left on the island after the raid.

Eldreth made her way through the freshwater channels and although she is exceptionally deadly in her own right, she is truly a matriarch and becomes an adopted mother to many of the children who were hiding during the raid and escaped.

As the trio of Eldreth, Ichtha, and Terra make their way through their island home they recover other noteworthy individuals and masters of their own magics and gifts. Uthric, a prodigy among the weather mages, is discovered having escaped by being in a hammock suspended between two whirlwinds in sacks many feet in the air. Myra (an acolyte of the Dark Lady) Eir (a white Druid) Theo (a Walker, who walks on water and through fire with ease) and others were discovered near a fountain after getting their captors drunk and encouraging them to succumb to the siren magic in her voice that draws them into the water to be drowned by the drowned guard. Odin, (a seer, and the older brother of Edda) leads a group with Terra to finish scouring the island and accumulates Isis (Eir's mother and a dark shape shifter) Thor (a Paladin who has barely learned the proper use of his hammer to knock people from their bodies) Erik (a farmer and berserker when activated) and a plant singer by the name of Frigga. A trio of friends (Odysseus, Orion, and Oberon) had been out capturing and bonding a Leviathan to one of them and return with a battered ship, the leviathan which looks like an oriental dragon with white scales, and are stunned to find that almost everyone is gone.

Captives are taken by the Atlantians, and the would be captors are put to work building up the homes and defenses of the island.  Some take very well to the work and prove to be good workers and even eventually get trained to help defend the island.

In certain circumstances, love blooms between survivors and the bonding ceremonies bonding soul to soul start the beginnings of rebuilding their people,

Eventually pirates and Romans each decide to visit the island again, only to find it well defended and have their lives taken and ships taken.

Bonds of friendship are forged with the captives and considerations are made to adopt them into the magical bloodlines that gift the Atlantians with the powers and gifts that make them so powerful.

The five member godhead gets involved and gives the survivors hints, helps, and tasks that are mind blowing at times to those who are left, including one final mission.... Go to the sunken capital and recover key items and liberate the innocents trapped when the city was sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
